Fig 12Anvil: anatomy5,217 hp · 699 dmg / 4.5 s · range 9.5
On the battlefield. The Anvil is a wall: five slow tanks that drive in front of your army and take the fire meant for what stands behind them, each answering with a 699-damage shell every 4.5 s. In the launch balance runs (pure lineups at 400, 800 and 1,600 coin, no techs) it beats light ground squads (Hexguard, Ridgeback, Courser) and the Salvo, and from 800 coin up it also beats the Heron and outlasts Skitter swarms; it loses to the units built to kill tanks (the Aurochs, Cutter, Torch, Weaver and Breaker) and to anything in the air, since it only shoots ground. Put it in your front row early and keep your damage dealers behind it. Linked Armor is the tech that makes it what it is: +120% hp and every hit on one tank shared across the whole squad, so burst and focus fire are wasted on it. AP Rounds turn it into a slow anti-heavy gun, Overdrive into a faster one.The Anvil as it is in the game: the forged-wedge tank on four track pods, as it moves in the game today. A squad is 5 tanks in a row, each 5,217 hp at 0.7 tiles/s, firing one 699-damage shell every 4.5 s out to 9.5 tiles (95 m), ground targets only. What moves is what moves in the game: the pods drive at 2.88 m/s while the turret swings on its own at 100°/s onto the target; each shot is a 0.3 s brace and a 0.18 m recoil. Every few seconds an enemy Anvil's 699-damage shell lands on it: with Linked Armor fitted the readout shows the hit split five ways. Linked Armor (250): +120% hp (11,477) and each hit pooled and split evenly across the squad's living tanks. AP Rounds: 2,447 a shell every 5.85 s. Overdrive: a shot every 3.38 s. Long Barrels +4 range, Heavy Plating +40% hp and 60 flat block. Numbers come from the game's catalog and animation plan.
