Fig 11Aurochs: anatomy24,041 hp · 6,537 dmg / 3.2 s · range 9.5
On the battlefield. The Aurochs is a tank killer that does one thing: it puts a 6,537-damage shell into the biggest target in reach every 3.2 s from 95 m out, enough to take apart mediums and heavies one at a time. That single shot is also its weakness. In the launch balance runs (pure lineups at 400, 800 and 1,600 coin, no techs) it beats the Courser, Torch, Anvil and Weaver at every budget, and loses to whatever comes in numbers or from the air: Skitter and Hexguard swarms soak a shell per body, it cannot shoot the Rotor, Mirage or Seraph at all, and the Cutter, Heron, Salvo and Breaker get the better of it. Deploy it behind a chaff screen, facing the enemy's heavy line, early enough to blunt their first mediums. Anchor Legs turns it into a fixed gun for a lane you mean to hold (more hp, range and rate, but it never moves again); Twin Barrel doubles each shell for big single targets; Point Defense stops one incoming missile or rocket a second (up to 400 hp), the answer to Salvo and Mirage fire. The Aurochs as it is in the game: the tracked tank as it moves in the game today. One tank to a squad, 24,041 hp, 0.8 tiles/s, and one 6,537-damage armor-piercing shell every 3.2 s (2,043 a second) out to 9.5 tiles with a 0.5-tile splash, ground targets only. What moves is what moves in the game: the hull drives (the track shoes and the bench's rollers at its drive speed, 3.12 m/s) while the turret swings on its own at 90°/s onto the target; each shot is the 0.3 s brace, the 0.62 m recoil and 3° kick. The target is drawn a few metres out; in battle it would be up to 95 m away. Techs: Anchor Legs (200) drops the four corner spades: no more moving, +50% hp, +2 range and a 20% faster shot (36,062 hp, 11.5 tiles, every 2.56 s). Twin Barrel (200) doubles each shell for a slower 4.2 s cycle (3,113 a second). Long Barrels +4 range, Heavy Plating +40% hp and 60 flat block, Point Defense shoots down one projectile of up to 400 hp within 3.6 tiles once a second (missiles and rockets; a Heavy Rocket is too tough). Numbers come from the game's catalog and animation plan.
